This elegant shiboridashi is a first for Leaves of Cha and a great example of Mark Foster's tea aesthetic. A great alternative for a gaiwan, it is traditionally used for Japanese teas like gyokuro but can be used for many other teas as well. The main difference being that the opening (gap between the lid and spout) is fixed instead of being variable with a gaiwan. This makes for simpler use and sometimes safer fingers! A beautiful piece to add to you teaware.

• Firing: Oxidation fired to Cone 6 in an L&L Electric Kiln
• Clay: Dark stoneware with white clay slip hakeme decoration on interior
• Glaze: Clear on interior only
• Care: Hand wash only (This piece is thin and delicate; the dishwasher would likely break it. Raw clay exteriors are not microwave-safe)

Mark's work is heavily influenced by tea. That is, it best exists in the moment; sharing a cup of tea with others can provide a reprieve by dissolving basic social expectations and structures. Tea is a means by which to make connections, with life, nature, and those around us. I hope that my work brings others to find their own tea practice. Each piece is derived from function and form, and balances between a modern, distracting, clean aesthetic and traditional Asian techniques and designs.
